WTF Comics WEEK 1

Comics I am surprised existed, usually in the 80s and 90s in an era when the big companies like DC and Marvel with publish anything. Or the super pulpy 70s and 60s. I would love to get some collectors editions of these titles.
I have a huge photo collection of these on my facebook, so every week I will post 4 here.

6 MORE Questions with mad man Ryan Nicholson

A year ago we spoke with intense exploitive horror movie maker Ryan Nicholson about his flick Gutterballs , since then he has gotten things on their way for the even more intense HANGER and Star Vehicle. So here comes another 6 questions with Mister Nicholson.

1 : Straight to it, Gutterballs 2? Saw a brilliant Jaws spoof promo picture for it? Are you doing this and serious how the hell could you do it?

The location of Gutterballs 2: Balls Deep is a waterslide park. The first Gutterballs is so campy and over the top that setting the sequel anywhere and calling it Gutterballs 2 would work. The script is finished and it is very true to the exploitative nature of the original. I hope to get into production in the Spring of 2010 and yes, there is a "Jaws" homage in there that then turns into a "Zombie Vs. Shark" spoof!

(Editor Riot's side note This Halloween my GF and I are going as a Shark and Zombie, I get to dress up like the Shark)

2: Hanger its done and on its way to mess us up on DVD soon, you have been ballsy and crossed many a line before, this was took alot of balls to make, how do you hope people react to this film?

I think the main reaction will be one of surprise because it's very different than my previous two movies. It's a Father/Son story and it is emotional at times, then totally over the top camp at others. It's far more sexual in nature than my last stuff. It's a total and complete unapologetic exploitation film that has a unique concept and an underlying theme of "right to choose". And of course there's many fetishes running throughout the picture...voyeurism, scat, menstrual and of course, domination. It's fun for the whole family!

3 : Your god damn busy since the release of Gutterballs you have had Hanger wrapped up and now Star Vehicle tell us a bit about that?

Yeah it's been none stop and I burning the candle at both ends. "Star Vehicle" is a bigger film than my "Trilogy of Depravity". It's about a Teamster Driver that as an unhealthy obsession with the "Scream Queen" he's driving to set. He writes a synopsis for her and hopes to direct it. This wishful thinking makes him the laughing stock of the film crew. He snaps and takes the "Scream Queen" and some arrogant crew for the ride of their life and perhaps death. It's very gory and very funny although not camp funny. The campy scenes are the movie within a movie scenes the film crew and cast is making. Then there's the DYI footage that the driver shoots towards the end of the movie. It has three looks and being shot in true hi-def, it looks amazing. We're in post-production now and except a Spring 2010 release. Plotdigger fans won't be disappointed. It's a very hard film.

4 : You seem to have a good bunch of friends to work with, who are some people you have worked with on your original projects that you couldnt have done it without?

My Plotdigger family has generally stayed the same since "Live Feed". My sound editor and music supervisor Patrick Coble is a long time friend who help with treatments and also was co-writer on "Hanger". His work and contributions with Plotdigger has been invaluable. Jay Gavin, my DOP and editor, has been there since the beginning as well. Working his way up from behind the scenes camera op. to second unit director to director of photography on my last two movies, he's also another "Lifer" in our family. My partner Michelle Grady, has co-produced and designed all the make-up FX for the last three movies as well as really be there for me when the times get tough. Making movies with very little is very much challenging! But we all love it. My Father, Roy Nicholson, who co-wrote "Live Feed" as well as produced it and "Gutterballs", has made Plotdigger Films a reality. Without his trusting me and my vision...we simply wouldn't hve had the resources to make the movies we've made. And trust me, no one is getting rich. We`re lucky to make our money back on a film. In most cases, as we`re learning, it`s a total crapshoot and you can`t anticipate an audiences reaction to your picture. Another `Lifer` that really has taken much time out of his life to contribute to our madness is Actor Dan Ellis. Dan has been with us since `Gutterballs` and will finally get the exposure he deserves when `Star Vehicle`comes out. I hope it truly is his `Star Vehicle` after being in the trenches with us for three features, this one is really his baby. I have some new family that I`m incredibly grateful to. My good friend Guy Russell, who owns Grindhouse Video in Vancouver. Guy has re-cut `Torched` for an official release which finally comes out in late November..signed and numbered to 666 copies. Guy also has cut behind the scenes and other special features for upcoming dvd`s for Plotdigger. Another `newbie` to the Plotdigger family is Artist Jordan Boos, who completely revamped the www.plotdigger.com site and also designed graphics for dvd covers, comics and posters as well as taking my story for `Gutterballs 2` and putting it to paper, writing a total Plotdigger stylied script that will have horror fans gagging and laughing at the same time. I think what makes us all work as a family is our love for the genre. We are all very dedicated to making a great movie. I can`t leave out Plotdigger regular actors Nathan Dashwood, Wade Gibb, Alastair Gamble and Candice Le. The acting talent in my stuff are not only very talented actors, they are all kick-ass individuals who continue to act in the Vancouver scene and thankfully, come back to Plotdigger when I need their genious.

5: For October I am watching a horror movie ever day , whats a stable halloween time film that you never miss out on watching?

I watch anything horror. I never miss the obvious, `Halloween` because it is simply one of the best horror movies of all time and still scares the shit out of me. I also go and see the now pre-requisite `Saw` movies because they`re a riot in the theatre and they have a great kills! I also love the `It`s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown`. Yes, I have a soft-spot!

(Editor wow Adam Green last weeks totally agrees with you)

6: The internet, as an independent film maker you still fall victim to pirating, whats the good and bad of internet media for a guy like you?

For me the pirates are quite amusing. Like selling `Hanger``on the sidewalks of New York to people thinking they`re buying `The Hangover`! That is some funny shit. Imagine the look on one`s unsuspecting face as `Hanger` gets pulled out, in a bloody close-up, from a vagina! I can only imagine what their face would look like! I don`t really condone or condemn downloading. I don`t download personally...not because I wouldn`t but mostly because I`m very technically retarded and lucky to even send an email without fucking it up! If someone digs my stuff after downloading it for free, all I can hope is that they`ll buy the dvd or my next movie because they want more. If they hate my movies, then there`s no loss to them. So it`s really neither here nor there for me. But the internet has helped Plotdigger grow tenfold, there`s no doubt about that!

( Editor note again, well Hanger comes out on DVD VERY SOON peeps so stay tuned, if you got the guts, for now I am gonna download some porn or maybe check out www.plotdigger.com)
